Fairness in Multi-Agent Sequential Decision-Making

چکیده
We define a fairness solution criterion for multi-agent decision-making problems, where agents have local interests. This new criterion aims to maximize the worst performance of agents with a consideration on the overall performance. We develop a simple linear programming approach and a more scalable game-theoretic approach for computing an optimal fairness policy. This game-theoretic approach formulates this fairness optimization as a two-player zero-sum game and employs an iterative algorithm for finding a Nash equilibrium, corresponding to an optimal fairness policy. We scale up this approach by exploiting problem structure and value function approximation. Our experiments on resource allocation problems show that this fairness criterion provides a more favorable solution than the utilitarian criterion, and that our gametheoretic approach is significantly faster than linear programming.

On Fairness in Decision-Making under Uncertainty: Definitions, Computation, and Comparison
The utilitarian solution criterion, which has been extensively studied in multi-agent decision making under uncertainty, aims to maximize the sum of individual utilities. However, as the utilitarian solution often discriminates against some agents, it is not desirable for many practical applications where agents have their own interests and fairness is expected. To address this issue, this pape...
متن کاملA Self-organized Multi Agent Decision Making System Based on Fuzzy Probabilities: The Case of Aphasia Diagnosis
Aphasia diagnosis is a challenging medical diagnostic task due to the linguistic uncertainty and vagueness, large number of measurements with imprecision, inconsistencies in the definition of Aphasic syndromes, natural diversity and subjectivity in test objects as well as in options of experts who diagnose the disease. In this paper we present a new self-organized multi agent system that diagno...
متن کاملA New multi attribute Decision making Reliability Centered Maintenance in Power Transmission Systems
The present context of the electric industry, characterized by competitive markets, privatization, and regulatory of technical requirements forces the power utilities to optimize their asset management practices and develop the requisite decision plans techno-economically. Practically approaching, this paper devises a new support tool based on a multiattribute decision making (MADM) framework i...
متن کاملFair Optimal Stopping Policy for Matching with Mediator
In this paper we study an optimal stopping policy for a multi-agent delegated sequential matching system with fairness constraints. We consider a setting where a mediator/decision maker matches a sequence of arriving assignments to multiple groups of agents, with agents being grouped according to certain sensitive attributes that needs to be protected. The decision maker aims to maximize total ...
متن کاملSimulating Sequential Decision-Making Process of Base- Agent Actions in a Multi Agent-Based Economic Landscape (MABEL) Model
In this paper, we present the use of sequential decision-making process simulations for base agents in our multi-agent based economic landscape (MABEL) model. The sequential decision-making process described here is a data-driven Markov-Decision Problem (MDP) integrated with stochastic properties. Utility acquisition attributes in our model are generated for each time step of the simulation. We...
